History Journals

When I look at the mementos of the past, I am always interested in what was happening in the world at that time. In my own art journals I always try to make sure that issues related to big events in the world are at least mentioned.

The events of the past two weeks made me realize that there are a lot of important things happening in the world and our reflections on them may be interesting later. So here is my idea . . . start a history journal. Include in it press clippings, print outs from websites, photos, and your own personal ruminations on the events.

How does it make you feel? Angry? Powerless? Hopeful? What is the reaction of the general public? How is the press handling the incident? I would love to know what my parents thought when Pearl Harbor was bombed, what they were doing when the war was over, how they felt when Kennedy was assassinated or when Nixon resigned. Big history is being made in our lifetimes. Heck, the Presidential election and the current NY/DC crisis might be enough for an entire volume!

If you are looking for a new journaling project, I encourage you to take this on for yourself and for future generations.
