Manhole Cover Project
Manhole Covers Project - "The notion of our inner world being beneath a manhole cover is one way of explaining why some of us are reluctant to enter an inner world. Some of us may be prevented from doing this because the manhole cover is so tightly fitted, so heavy, that we quite simply cannot go within".
Send Soul Food Chocolates
If you have an artist, a dreamer, a dancer, a mythologist, an imagineer, a writer amidst your clan, make sure to nourish their creative spirit by sending them a box of Chocolates from the Soul Food Cafe. But be cautioned! These hand filled chocolates are totally addictive and may change lives.
Childhood is a state or phase of imaginative existence, the phase in which the world of imagination is still a brave new world and yet reassuring and intelligible.
The strictly non-fat chocolate from the Soul Food Chocolate Box is full of projects and material to help us return to that wondrous kingdom where imagination and creativity rule. The special fillings focus on celebrating childhood joy, spontaneity and imagination.

Magic Writing Tram
Heather Blakey - Purveyor of Creative Stimuli
As a school student I was not considered to be artistic or creative but then few of my teachers were artistic or particularly creative and did little to nourish that side of my personality. It has taken many years for me to wear my artistry on my sleeve and actually name myself an artist.
It was a friend who insisted that the time had come for me to claim artistic space within the artist's loft here at Soul Food. I looked around, wondering what I could bring to display on the walls of my new studio and realised that the Advent Calendar, the Dig Tree, the Chocolate Box, the Magic Writing Tree and Soul Food itself affirm my right to name myself artist.
Since retiring from formal teaching, in 2005, to care for my husband, who has been battling cancer for five years, I took up sketching. Prior to this I had never sketched and did not believe myself capable of drawing anything.
When I travelled the Soul Food Silk Road I travelled as le Enchanteur, the Amazon Queen and Baba Yaga. I decided that rather than write I would make it a practice to do a drawing every day. My skill level is gradually improving. Coloured pencils have proved to be a therapeutic medium for me and I am now totally addicted to the bright colours that Faber Castell offer.
The Soul Food Cafe is a chamber of wonders
and I have transformed and become a purveyor of creative stimuli. This is my art!

A Bumper Catalogue of Creativity
Periodically le Enchanteur takes pilgrims through a magic portal, not unlike the portals of Narnia and Pan's Labyrinth, in to the world of Lemuria. The new Catalogue of Creativity presents material not available on the Soul Food site.

The 2006 Adventure Calendar
It's here! It's here! Heather Blakey's famous Christmas Advent Calendar is moving into its fourth year now and goes live on December 1. Besides plenty of creative inspiration, what else can you expect this year? Heather says:
As you visit the calendar page each day in December you'll find a new adventure link (they magically appear daily!) that will take you deep into the realm of creativity and imagination. Wonderful for artists, writers, and bloggers — don't miss it!
Advent Calendar 2005
The theme of the 2005 Advent Calendar was the Journey of the Heart
A group of courageous travellers packed at a moments notice and headed off for a three month trek along the Soul Food Silk Road.
They discovered a road that twisted and wound endlessly. They met the Amazon Queen, a Hermit, a Mystic, Gypsy Travellers, Fortune Tellers, a Bath-house Madame, the Sacred Warrior Knight, the Mistress of the Wardrobe and many other interesting characters.
The 2005 Advent Calendar preserves the journey of these travellers and provides everyone else with the opportunity to pull out their visual journals and participate in many of the activities that travellers undertook.
Each day a bright light appeared on the calendar, opening a new link. By December 25 the heavens above the Silk Road were aglow.
This year the calendar provided visitors with the opportunity to join bloggers in order to complete activities and interact with the Silk Road travellers.
Heroine's Journey and City of Ladies
Before undertaking any journey's with le Enchanteur (Heather Blakey's alter ego) it is recommended that you work through the A to Z of Alchemy in the Lemurian Abbey.
Early in 2005 Heather created a virtual monastery at Soul Food using blogger. In an interview with Chris Dunmire she talked about how she envisioned the Lemurian Abbey as a place full of fine art and craft, a monastery that would be filled with tiny, Spartan cells where votaries of the muse could come, retreat behind walls and observe time differently. She believed that in this Monastery, time would not be measured with clocks and believed that monastic writers would be free to wander through the cloisters and walled gardens in a meditative state, capturing metaphors in their writing nets.
With the advent of programs like the powerful WordPress, Heather Blakey is building virtual, niche communities. Lemuria is a fabulous fantasy world where writers and artists travel and charter new regions. Pilgrims who travel the Soul Food Silk Road eventually individuate and find a place for themselves in the City of Ladies.
An Alluvial Mine has been discovered within the grounds of Soul Food and it is opening for sturdy miners who know that to find real creative gold you have to be prepared to dig deeply. The human mind is like an alluvial mine. Below the surface of the ground is that area of mental and emotional activity which carries with it all the mental and emotional activity which have been experienced by the individual. The mine contains a volumne of experience and reality. Within it are creative powers beyond belief.
If you don't have time to mine the page this newsletter provides some shortcuts for the lazy miner.

Whimsical Activity Calendar
A wonderful Advent gift came from Heather at
Soul Food Cafe, who prepared a virtual Advent
Calendar , with one 'door' to be opened every day through to
Dec 26. Like everything at Soul Food, this is a labor of love packed with
good writing, thoughts and ideas both for making this a rewarding and
fruitful time, and especially for navigating the sometimes stormy and
difficult waters of the holiday season.
